Dr. Roger Minear, an esteemed environmental chemist and longtime member of the American Chemical Society, passed away on February 14, 2026, after a short illness. His work helped shape modern understanding of aquatic chemistry and the chemical processes underlying drinking water purification.
He served for many years on the faculty of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was recognized as a dedicated scholar, mentor, and leader in environmental engineering and chemistry.
He retired to Sedona, Arizona with his wife Carol in 2001. When not enjoying the red rock views, they frequently traveled. After Carol’s passing in 2018, he took up gardening and doting on his granddaughter, Iris.
He is survived by his younger brother Michael Minear and his daughters Meredith and Melinda as well as his two cats, Jay and Pat.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Humane Society of Sedona.
