Robert Henry Kohrs

April 19, 1931 — July 18, 2017

Robert (Bob) Henry Kohrs, aged 86, died on July 18, 2017, after a courageous battle with
cancer. He was born April 19, 1931 to Robert and Sophie (Rohwer) Kohrs in Davenport, IA. He
was the youngest of four children (Eleanor, Suzanne and Jack). Bob graduated from the
University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1953, then served in the U.S. Air Force in Texas, Japan and
Korea. A graduate of the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona, his
career in banking began when he joined Chase Manhattan Bank in Panama. There, he met and
married his first wife, Eleanor Gail Shaw (Burlakoff). He and his family lived in the U.S. Virgin
Islands, Lima, Peru and New Jersey, until he joined Indiana National Bank in Indianapolis,
Indiana in 1973, where he was responsible for its international business until he retired. He took
pride in his work and relished many friendships during his career.
In 1988, Bob met and married his second wife, Sally Burnett Martin Choate Kohrs, in
Indianapolis. They built a house in Sedona, AZ and split their time between both homes until
they permanently relocated to AZ in 2008. They loved to hike, play golf, entertain friends and
family, and travel. Sally preceded him in death on June 16, 2017, after a brave battle with
cancer.
Bob is survived by his brother Jack of Davenport, IA, several nieces and nephews, and his three
children, Karla Johanna Kohrs Wheeler and her son William of Santa Fe, NM; Peter John
Kohrs, his wife Carol, and their three children, Annalise, Kathryn and Jackson, of San Antonio,
TX; and Nancy Louisa Kohrs LaRoche, her husband Dave, and their daughters, Eleanor and
Claire, of Goffstown, NH. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Richard Henderson Choate
and his wife Polly of Tucson, AZ; and Terry Choate Rourke, her husband Tom, and children,
Austin, Lain and Richard Rourke of Boston, MA.
A private family memorial is planned. The family thanks the staff of Hospice of the Pines and
Maggies Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of
Sedona, 2115 Shelby Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336.
