Sedona, AZ (Formerly of Peoria, IL) – With grace and peace, Mary Ann Peterson, 83, entered eternal rest on September 8th in Sedona, Arizona.
Mary Ann was a woman of deep faith, strong character, and a generous heart. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Christopher Peterson; her parents, Adolph and Eve Schmidt; and her sister, Carol Ehni. She leaves behind four nieces who adored her, along with several great-nieces and great-nephews who will cherish her memory.
Born in St. Louis, MO, Mary Ann pursued her education at the University of Missouri, earning her B.A. She married Christopher on April 20, 1968, in Fairview Park, Ohio, and together they built a beautiful life, moving to Peoria, IL, in 1971. Though Christopher passed too soon in 1989, Mary Ann carried his memory with her always.
Mary Ann’s career reflected her determination and leadership. After many years with Fleming-Potter Company, she co-founded Mail Tech Enterprises in 1988. Her talents and dedication led her to serve as President of both fp Mail Systems and Mail Tech, and she contributed her expertise on national and local boards within the printing and mailing industries. She was admired not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her kindness, fairness, and mentorship.
Service to others was always at the center of Mary Ann’s life. She joyfully gave her time to Junior Achievement, tutoring English as a Second Language students, and volunteering through her church communities. Whether as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, or part of the Homebound Ministry, her faith was lived out daily in acts of love and devotion.
After retiring in 2006, Mary Ann embraced life in Arizona. First in Apache Junction and then in 2018, she moved to Sedona, where she enjoyed being near her niece, Kathy Cox, and her great-nephews. She found joy in friendships, volunteer work, the beauty of the desert, and the red rocks. She especially loved the warm Arizona sunshine (and absence of snow!).
Mary Ann will be laid to rest beside her dear husband at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria, IL, with arrangements entrusted to Wilton Mortuary. A small graveside service will be held in her honor on Tuesday, September 16th at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to causes close to Mary Ann’s heart: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Our Lady of Victory Homes of Charity in Lackawanna, NY, St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction, AZ, Holy Family Church in Peoria, IL, or St. John Vianney in Sedona, AZ.
Mary Ann will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her giving spirit, and the love she poured into her family and community. She lived a life full of meaning and kindness, and her light will continue to shine in the lives she touched.
