Kevin Hughes, 65, of Sedona passed away peacefully on November 11, 2014, ending his five-year battle with melanoma.
Kevin was born in Detroit, MI on September 23, 1949 to Gerald and Helene Hughes. He graduated from Gerrish-Higgins High School, Roscommon, MI in 1967, earned a BA in Engineering from Michigan State University in 1972 and an MBA from Kent State University in 1996. He had a successful career in the automation industry with General Motors in Detroit, MI and Rockwell Automation in Cleveland, OH and Milwaukee, WI. The last 10 years of his career he was self-employed, representing Denso Wave of Japan.
He married his high-school sweetheart Suzanne in 1969 and they have one daughter, Kelly. He loved the outdoors; enjoying motorcycling and sailboat racing and cruising on Lake Michigan. He and Suzanne moved to Sedona in 2008 and have since enjoyed hiking, kayaking, camping and sightseeing.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, daughter Kelly of Clarkdale, AZ, his aunt and uncle, Harry and Priscilla Gentle of Prescott, AZ, brothers Corey and his wife Loretta of MI, Greg and his wife Dotty of NH, sister-in-laws Nancy Bresette of MI and Janet Rasey-Jackson of WA, 3 nephews, 5 nieces and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014, 11:00 AM, at the Church of the Red Rocks, 54 Bowstring Rd., Sedona, AZ. Luncheon reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
