(Sept. 1, 1940 - Sept. 14, 2019)
E. Dixon Gourley, Jr. age 79, an 11 year resident of Sedona, passed away at home on Sept. 14, 2019 from cancer. Dixon is survived by Charlotte, his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, their 3 children, and 8 grandchildren: Suzanne(Sanjay) Agarwal and Ravi, Asha, and Vinay of S. Calif.; Ginny (Rob) Keith and Daniel and Erinn of Ashburton, New Zealand; E. Dixon, III (Jody) Gourley and Megan, Shelby, and Addison of South Carolina.
All of us greatly miss his smile, loving manner, inquisitiveness, and sense of humor.
Born in Baltimore, MD, Dixon lived in Salisbury , MD for 35 years and also Chula Vista, CA and Ashburton, NZ . Dixon had several careers, 2 post-graduate degrees, and varied interests encompassing both the sciences and the arts. The career he loved the most was that of an ATR corporate pilot for a major company. In retirement, he volunteered (600 hours) at the Midway Museum as a docent on
the flight deck and held a New Zealand private pilot's license.
His love of nature and the environment is evident in his 2,690 hours as a volunteer naturalist at Red Rock State Park, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Dixon's name to Benefactors of Red Rock State Park (PO box 525, Sedona, AZ 86339).
Our heartfelt thanks to so many friends who have honored Dixon's memory and supported us. A private cremation was held. No services are scheduled at this time.
